Questions Raised After Ogolla’s Death

Questions have been raised concerning the mysterious plane crash that claimed the lives of nine people, including the Chief of Defence Forces, Francis Ogolla, hours after President William Ruto announced the military chief’s tragic death.

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino took to his X account on Friday to raise relevant questions regarding the fatal crash, while also urging expeditious investigations.

The outspoken lawmaker asked several questions, one of which was the West Commander’s location at the time of the incident.

The lawmaker also inquired as to the Army Commander’s and Sergeant Major KDF’s whereabouts before the aircraft disaster.

“Why was a single helicopter being used by the entire CDF in an operation area without a 50ACB helicopter escort?” Babu Owino pondered.

Concerns were also expressed about the fact that the Chief of Defence Forces, a senior military figure, was accompanied only by less senior officers.

Babu Owino demanded further information, specifically regarding which military rank should pilot such a helicopter, particularly when transporting the Chief of Defence Forces.

When a CDF is about to inspect his troops, who leads the parade? How many helicopters should a CDF use when visiting an operation area? Babu Owino asked a query.

Why, in the opinion of Babu Owino, was it that General Francis Ogolla, a senior military officer, was inspecting schools rather than his juniors?

There was a request for clarification regarding Ogolla’s successor after his death. “And why is General Ogolla dead just after the recent changes in KDF?” asked the Member of Parliament.

President William Ruto declared General Francis Ogolla dead on Thursday, April 18, citing a helicopter accident that occurred in Elgeyo Marakwet.

Shortly after convening with other pertinent authorities to devise a plan of action against the bandits wreaking havoc in the North Rift regions, the military chief passed away.

“This is a moment of great sadness for myself, as the Commander in Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, the Kenya Defence Forces fraternity and the nation at large,” Ruto said.
