HELB Loan Application Requirements For First-Time Applicants

Following the opening of the application portal, the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has encouraged all qualified applicants to submit an application for the funds.

The loans board urged applicants to take advantage of this unique chance and submit their applications before the deadline in a statement.

HELB continued by outlining a number of prerequisites that applicants must meet in order for the application process to be completed successfully.

The HELB states that before beginning the application procedure, a candidate wishing to apply for financing must have a working phone number and email address.

Additionally, the year of the exam and the index numbers for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) must be present.

For their application to be accepted, qualified candidates must additionally submit a copy of a passport-size photo in jpeg, jpg, or png format.

Similar to other application procedures, candidates must submit a copy of their Maisha cards or National Identity cards in PDF format, showing both sides.

An applicant must provide the board with legitimate bank account information or a genuine MPESA number that is registered under their name and ID number in order for HELB to easily disburse the cash.

If the applicant is under the age of 18 years, then they will be required to provide birth certificates in the form of a PDF as an alternative to the ID requirement.

A Copy of the sponsorship letter in PDF will be required for those sponsored in secondary schools.

HELB’s latest message comes five days after it officially opened the application portal to enable eligible students to make their applications.

The decision to open the application portal followed a directive by the Education Cabinet Secretary who ordered the loans board to open its portal for students to apply.

“I give CS Machogu the order to direct HELB and the Universities Fund (UF) to open the Higher Education Funding portal on June 15, 2024, so that the qualified students can apply for funding.”

“I wish to notify all parents, guardians and students that the results of the funding application process will be released on July 31, 2024,” he stated.
