55,000 yet to select courses ahead of Monday deadline

There are just two days left for 55,000 students to finish their college and university application. The Central Placement Service for Kenyan Universities and Colleges (KUCCPS) announced that the portal will close on Monday.Ezekiel Machogu, the cabinet secretary for education, reported on Friday that 144,102 students had submitted applications to be placed in public and private universities.

199,695 applicants who passed the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam the previous year were eligible to apply to universities. After technological issues were resolved, 22,307 students submitted their applications in a single day, according to KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Mercy Wahome.

“The KUCCPS application portal is operating without a hitch. This is a result of the team’s interventions, which included eCitizen officers and KUCCPS officers. In a statement that was also signed by Isaac Ochieng, Director General of e-Citizen Services, Dr. Wahome stated that “the application success rate has increased rapidly.”

“We assure applicants, parents and the public in general that the application process is smooth and all eligible persons should apply.”For the last three weeks, thousands of learners have been burning the midnight oil to log into the system without success. Machogu last week announced the extension of the deadline after the hitch.

“We want to reassure everyone who is eligible to apply—parents, applicants, and the general public—that the application process is easy to follow.”

Thousands of students have been trying unsuccessfully to log into the system around midnight for the past three weeks. Following the hiccup, Machogu announced last week that the deadline will be extended.

This came after a stir among candidates, educators, and parents prompted Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to extend the application deadline.Kenyans complained that the KUCCPS interface was either unresponsive or opened slowly, frustrating them.

Due to the challenges, Dr Mercy Igoki, a parent, said the deadline set for the application was not sufficient.Dr Igoki said the deadline set was applicable when systems are working. “That KUCCPS portal is a nightmare. It is simply not opening. It is not working,” she said.
