Nelson Mahanga Mwita, the former Deputy Governor of Migori County, died on Saturday, September 9.Governor Ochillo Ayacko said in a statement that his late deputy was a superb leader and that his constituents are appreciative and would remember him for his service.
“During this difficult time, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.” “Please accept my heartfelt condolences,” Governor Ayacko said in a statement.Separately, the Migori County Government remembered Mahanga as a committed leader who gave his all for the advancement of humanity.
“With deep regret, we express our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and people of Migori for the loss of such a valuable leader,” read part of a statement issued by the devolved entity.According to accounts, the former lawmaker died while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital.
The deceased’s body was sent to the mortuary after his death. The family is now preparing funeral arrangements and will inform Migori inhabitants and Kenyans at large in due course.Mahanga was Migori’s first Deputy Governor, elected on a combined ticket with previous Governor Okoth Obado under the new constitution.He took over some county tasks in 2020 when the High Court barred Obado from entering his post.”I’d like to assure Migori residents and Kenyans that there is no power vacuum in Migori.” “The county will continue to function well, and the county executive committee meetings will be robust,” Mahanga remarked.
At the time, Obado was facing impeachment and had multiple graft cases hanging over his head. The deceased was a respected banker and marketer who kept a low profile until Obado’s legal problems became public. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Land Economics from the University of Nairobi, a Master’s degree in Business Administration from USIU, and a Diploma in Banking from the London Chartered Institute of Bankers. Prior to entering politics, he worked as a lecturer and in various jobs inside local banks.
