TSC to Disqualify Primary Teachers Teaching JSS
The official requirements set by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for deploying practicing PTE (Primary Teacher Education) teachers to junior secondary schools, as per the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC), encompass Grades 7, 8, and 9.
Teachers eligible for deployment to junior secondary schools should possess one of the following qualifications:
1. Diploma in Education
2. Higher National Diploma in Education
3. Bachelor’s Degree in Education
4. Post Graduate Diploma in Education
5. Master’s Degree or PhD in Education
It is imperative for these teachers to have undergone training in Secondary Teacher Education with proficiency in at least two teaching subjects. Furthermore, they must have achieved a mean grade of C+ (Plus) and above in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and secured at least C+ (Plus) in the two teaching subjects.
Teachers who pursued a Bachelor of Education (Secondary option) and received a C (Plain) or lower on the KCSE are not qualified for deployment. Teachers also need to have completed training in the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which is designed especially for junior secondary education.
The Boards of Management (BOM), which are chosen by the Cabinet Secretary for Basic Education, are in charge of managing public basic education institutions. These boards have the power to supervise how educational resources are managed and make sure rules and regulations are followed at institutions of basic education.
The minimal professional requirements for leaders of private organizations differ according to the kind of institution: – Independent Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) for Pre-Primary 1 and 2.
– Grades 1, 2, and 3 and Pre-Primary 1 and 2: PTE Certificate or Diploma in Primary Teacher Education – Grades 1 through 6 and Pre-Primary 1 and 2: PTE Certificate or Diploma in Primary Teacher Education – Bachelor of Education (BED) or Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE) for Primary and Junior Secondary Schools.
