Bhang Found Inside Isiolo MCA’s house
A member of the Isiolo County Assembly was detained by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday on suspicion of trading in marijuana.
In a statement, DCI stated that a multi-agency team collaborating with officers from the Transnational Organized Crimes Unit apprehended the individuals on the outskirts of Isiolo town.
The two male suspects, aged 27 and 25 years, were flagged down in Isiolo Town while driving a white Landcruiser.
One of the suspects arrested has been confirmed as a sitting MCA in Isiolo County.
“The team proceeded to the house at Kambi Garba Estate on the outskirts of Isiolo town where six gunny bags containing the 57 stones of the prohibited herb were recovered”, the DCI statement read in part.
The DCI also revealed that the bhang exhibits were escorted to DCI headquarters for further processing as the suspects underwent investigative interviewing.
The arrest comes after the police seized two motor vehicles loaded with 14 sacks and six bails estimated to be 588 Kilograms in November.
Five suspects were arrested in the Kisii operation and the seized contraband was valued at Sh17,640,000 in the streets.
The arrested MCA was elected on a United Democratic Movement Ticket, which is affiliated with the Kenya Kwanza Movement.
Barely two weeks after the general election, in August 2022, the political party defected from the opposition’s Azimio alliance to the ruling alliance.
UDM won 45 seats overall in the election, including Khalif Mohamud Ali of Wajir and Mohamed Adan, the governor of Mandera.
According to earlier accounts, the MCA gained notoriety when, together with other UDM ward representatives, he organized a protest against Isiolo Governor Ali Guyo for his comments criticizing the Party’s leader, Marsabit Governor Muhamud Ali.
