TSC will Advance Over 50000 Teachers by December, TSC Chairman
By the end of the year, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) intends to promote 50,000 teachers. TSC Chairman Dr. Jamleck Muturi disclosed that with funding of Ksh1 billion, they have already hired 50,000 interns this year, beginning in March and continuing through November.
Following a meeting with representatives from the education sector at Kisumu’s St. Teresa Girls Secondary School, Dr. Muturi addressed some of the major topics raised. These included worries about a lack of staff, problems with mental health, and staff member discipline.
The stakeholders were given assurances by Dr. Muturi that the Commission is committed to tackling these problems. In order to ensure that children receive a quality education, these complaints must be resolved because happy teachers are better able to satisfy the needs of students.
He also noted that there is a general scarcity of instructors across the counties and that plans are being made to fill the void; these plans would be implemented in due course.
Dr. Muturi noted that wellness centers and rehabilitation facilities have been set up for affected employees in terms of mental health care.
Even paid leave has been given to some impacted employees. School heads from different institutions attended the conference together with officials from a number of educational groups, including Kenya Secondary School Heads (KESSHA), the Kisumu chapter of KNUT, and KEPSHA Kisumu.
