50,000 Teachers Will Receive Promotions By December

On October 5, 2022, at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi, during World Teachers Day celebrations, Teachers Service Commissioner (TSC) Chairman Jamleck Muturi gave a speech.The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has stated that 50,000 teachers will receive promotions by the end of the year.

TSC Chairman Dr. Jamleck Muturi said that 50,000 interns have so far been recruited since this year after receiving Ksh1 billion and that the exercise started in March and will end in November.

After meeting with stakeholders in the education sector at St. Teresa Girls Secondary School in Kisumu, he addressed the media and stated that some of the issues that emerged from the meeting included a lack of staff, mental health difficulties, and staff discipline.The Commission Chairperson assured them that the Commission will commit to finding solutions to the challenges they raised.

He claimed that resolving the issues will guarantee that kids obtain a quality education since a happy teacher is better able to address students’ requirements. Dr. Muturi acknowledged that there was a general scarcity of teachers across the counties and stated that efforts to fill the gap have already been put in place and will be implemented in due course.

Regarding mental health, the TSC boss said that they have already come up with wellness centers and rehabs for affected staff. He added that some of the affected staff have been given paid leave.

Kenya Secondary School Heads (KESSHA) Kisumu Chairman George Opiyo, KNUT Kisumu branch Executive Secretary David Obuon, Gordon Olando from Kisumu West, and Elly Ondiek from KEPSHA Kisumu were also in attendance during the event.Kennedy Oguta of Bishop Abiero Secondary School and Duncan Owiyo of Kisumu Boys School were in attendance.
