Judiciary Has Announced Job Opportunities

To improve the nation’s judicial system, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has started the hiring process for 20 High Court justices. The positions were declared vacant in a gazette notice published on September 27, 2023, by Chief Justice Martha Koome.According to the regulations of Kenya’s Salaries and Remuneration Commission, the gross monthly compensation package for these posts ranges from Ksh657,426 to Ksh1,000,974 (benefits excluded).

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet certain qualifications, including having a law degree from a recognized university, being an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, or possessing an equivalent qualification in a Common-law jurisdiction.

A further requirement is that applicants have at least 10 years of experience as a superior court judge, professionally certified magistrate, renowned scholar, lawyer, or in a related legal industry. Additionally, they must uphold moral integrity and follow the rules outlined in Chapter Six of the Constitution, which are related to leadership and integrity.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate professional competence, effective communication skills, fairness, good temperament, sound judgment, extensive legal and life experience, as well as a strong commitment to public and community service.The appointment process will adhere to Article 166 (1) (b), (2), and (5) of the 2010 Constitution, along with Section 30 of Part V and Schedule 1 of the Judicial Service Act, No. 1 of 2011.
