Nyandarua Teachers Strike

Teachers in Nyandarua blocked traffic on  Wednesday morning in protest of their  colleague’s death, whose body was left in  pieces and thrown into a bush.

A week after John Nginge, a teacher at Kahoka Primary School, was first reported  missing, his body was discovered.

The tutors, led by representatives of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT)  Nyandarua chapter, expressed dissatisfaction over the high level of insecurity in  the  county, claiming that it posed a threat to their safety. While some of the teachers rode on boda boda while holding placards, others  clothed in KNUT colors chose to travel on foot.

“Haki! Haki! Haki! Justice! Justice! Justice!” The pupils in their uniforms followed the teachers, and they chanted. One of the educators who addressed the media went on, “We demand justice  and we condemn brutal murder.”

The teachers lamented that their efforts to push for a full investigation into Ngige’s death were frustrated by unidentified individuals. The said people were accused of barring an inquest into the teacher’s demise.

To address the issue, the striking teachers demanded the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Nyandarua look into the alleged murder and enhance security in the county.

Teachers in Nyandarua continued to demand answers on the death of Ngige  and the arrest and arraignment of his killers in court, despite reports that they  had been fired by the government. Additionally, they threatened DCI with more rallies involving parents and students if  their complaints were not resolved.

According to reports, police promised to issue a preliminary report and began  looking into the teacher’s death. Whether a postmortem was performed to determine how Ngige passed away was  still unknown.

In a related incident, two months ago, the body of a pastor who vanished was  discovered mangled and disposed of in Sasumwa Dam, Nyandarua. Before he vanished, the deacon got a call from an unidentified number. Two days later, his body was discovered a few meters from his house.
