Opening Date For 2024 Academic Year
On Thursday, Belio Kipsang, the principal secretary for education, declared that the reopening of schools nationwide is scheduled for January 8, 2024. Speaking at the results of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination, Kipsang thanked educators for their hard work while also recognizing the difficulties they occasionally encountered, such as having to teach four terms in a calendar year.
This marks a return to the traditional school calendar system after disruptions caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. The 2024 school calendar, shared by the Ministry of Education on October 13, 2023, outlines a structured academic year.
Term One is set to commence on January 8, 2024, spanning a 13-week duration until closure on April 5, 2024. After the first term, students will have a 3-day half-term break from February 29 to March 3, 2024.
The second term is scheduled to resume on April 29, 2024, running until June 20, when a mid-term break is planned until June 23, 2024. The term will then recommence on June 24 and conclude on August 2, 2024.
Starting on August 26, 2024, and ending on October 25, 2024, is when the third term is scheduled to begin. For the benefit of students and the education industry as a whole, this modification marks a return to a more conventional framework and a break from recent changes in the academic calendar.
