According to President William Ruto, almost 300,000 workers from foreign digital companies are interested in working in Kenya’s digital sector. Speaking during a church service in Nairobi’s Langata neighborhood, President Ruto said that the government had been successful in securing job opportunities for Kenyans at a number of corporations, including Google, Intel, and Apple.
“We have engaged in negotiations with multiple companies. During my visit to the United States, I toured Google, Intel, and Apple, and they are actively seeking Kenyan youth to work in the digital sector,” he remarked.
The president of state stressed that the government is working to set up Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) centres in each ward to offer young Kenyans training and equip them with the skills they need for jobs abroad. The president said, “We are dedicated to building ICT hubs throughout Kenya, complete with computers and other necessary amenities, with the aim of supporting employment for 300,400, or even 500, young people in the digital industry.
The government has began to provide free Wi-Fi hotspots through the Ministry of ICT in an effort to improve digital chances for the country’s youth.
