In Kisumu County, the Kisumu Girls High School has been closed indefinitely.The school was shuttered on Sunday as a result of ongoing student agitation, according to reports.
Several students have reportedly complained about the school’s uninhabitable climate, according to reports. According to reports, some of the kids sought the resignation of the current principle and other administrators at the school. On Sunday morning, when things got out of hand, students started chanting loudly, which required the deployment of police officers to the facility to bring things back to normal.
Reports also indicated that the situation had been tense from Friday, with the situation boiling over through the weekend forcing the abrupt closure.
Nelson Sifuna, the regional director of education for Nyanza, disclosed that the students had also voiced complaints about physical punishment. The representative clarified that the school administration was looking into some of the complaints. “The situation worsened yesterday when officers from the National Government Administration and Ministry of Education tried to address them at the Dining Hall, but they were angry,” he continued. According to Sifuna, the pupils were handed papers to write and told not to express their complaints.
Students in form four will suffer as they get ready for the national exams set for November if the problem is not fixed.This occurred the day after the Ministry of Education made official closing dates for all of the nation’s schools public.Belio Kipsang, the principal secretary for basic education, declared that the third term would end on October 27 to let students to take the national exams.
