The Ministry of Education (MoE) recently launched a new initiative aimed at  eliminating diploma and certificate programs from public university curricula. The government states that these programs should only be provided by TVET and  collegiate institutions.

Furthermore, kuccps has noted that students who prefer to enroll in university-based (Tvet) programs are not eligible for government assistance. The CEO of KUCCPS, Agnes Wahome, states that government money will not be  available for university-based diploma and certificate programs.

Speaking at the Kenya Institute of Special Education’s stakeholders engagement  session, Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu asserted that colleges need to raise  the caliber of the courses they give to students.

Machogu stated that middle-level colleges, such as TVET institutions, are now better positioned to provide  diploma courses after receiving backing from the government.

The CS made it clear that university offerings of the diploma courses must  be gradually and methodically discontinued.

The diploma courses will be offered by TVET institutions, national Polytechnics,  and o ther middle-level colleges after these university courses are progressively phased out.

However, Machogu stated that the Commission for University Education is  developing bridge courses in order to give individuals who want to pursue higher  education but are having problems with their cluster points a chance.

Additionally, the cs revealed that the Ministry aims to achieve worldwide standards  for training for employment objectives by transforming learning in TVET institutions  into a very practical experience.

The CS added that he had put a lot of effort into streamlining TVET institutions, noting that upon taking office, he discovered them to be in disarray.

Students who intend to enroll in diploma and certificate programs at different colleges after this announcement should exercise caution to avoid problems later on.This is due to the fact that employment is contingent upon pursuing a course from an accredited university.
