Paul Leshimpiro, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for the Angata Nanyekie  ward of Samburu County, has passed away. Leshimpiro was shot and killed by suspected bandits while traveling to his home in  Morijo. At around 11:00 am, while heading from Maralal town, the MCA was approached. Thomas Ototo, the commander of Samburu County Police, said that the MCA’s  driver was not hurt in the incident.

On January 29, Leshimpiro appeared on news outlets asking the Head of State to take decisive action against the bandits who have been wreaking havoc on families in the region.

The MCA made the request in a firm tone of voice suggesting that the issue had continued to affect many households.

“This morning we were trying to call the security personnel because there was an issue. A second person is dead today when we are burying another one. Mr President, you do not have to wait any further. You need to take an action,” he told the press.”Do not suggest to us that you are less powerful than a bandit. Do not suggest to us that you are less armed than a bandit.”

The former Agriculture Principal Secretary Richard Lesiyampe’s house was invaded by robbers at the time, and many residents kept their animals there because they believed it to be a safer area.

According to the residents, the bandits fired towards the house before entering. One of the residents said, “They came and sprayed the house with about 20 bullets.”Another attack happened the following day during the funeral for a police reserve officer who was shot and killed by suspected robbers.

One mourner was killed and others were injured in the ensuing gunfight.”I’m going to start a revolution today. Lesiyampe declared at the time, “I will look for lawyers and take their cases to court for everyone who has lost their lives and the government has failed to save them.”Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda promised to continue the MCA’s activist activity in order to see that the area’s peace is restored.

“You asked for action only a month ago, and now you received it. Peace be with you, Mheshimiwa (honorable). We shall not get tired of demanding prompt action. Before enough lives are lost, how many more? Nobody is safe,” the woman said. The driver of Leshimpiro escaped the assault.
