According to a new survey by research firm Infotrak, Busia Senator and seasoned human rights campaigner Okiya Omtatah is the top performing person in the nation, scoring 59 percent. Senators Kamau Murango of Kirinyaga and Aaron Cheruiyot of Kericho deadlocked at 56%.
Senators John Methu of Nyandarua and Dan Maanzo of Makueni completed the top five with 51 and 52 percent, respectively. The only senators to have served three terms each in the top 10 were Cheruiyot and Moses Kajwang (47), both of Homabay.
The best female senators were also ranked by the survey, with Agnes Kavindu of Machakos topping the list at 47% and his Isiolo colleague, Fatuma Dullo, at 46%. All 47 counties were included in the Infotrak study, which was carried out between July and September of 2023.
Nominated leaders were not included in the survey; only elected leaders were.The poll, known as Countytrak, evaluated the effectiveness of elected officials, including as senators, women representatives, and county assembly members.In the past two days, Infotrak has produced two surveys that rank the top counties and governors as well as the counties and governors that have improved the most.
Seventy percent of respondents said their counties were better than they were prior to devolution, while twenty-one percent said the opposite. Simultaneously, 9% reported a state of stagnation.
Additionally, it made a comparison of the progress of the present and former county governments, with West Pokot County and Homabay coming in first at 70%, followed by Trans Nzoia at 65%, Elgeiyo Marakwet at 64%, Kirinyaga at 63%, and Embu at 59%. At 70%, West Pokot governor Simon Kachapin (67%) and Homabay governor Gladys Wanga came in first and second, respectively, followed by Kisii governor Simba Arati (64) and Irugu Kang’ata (64).
