Safaricom Stops M-Pesa Transfers To Unregistered Users

The massive telecom operator Safaricom has recently announced that  M-Pesa users will no longer be able to transfer money to unregistered users.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Safaricom  stated that the new directive will  take effect the following Monday, February 5,  2024.

However, the business pointed out that registered users will still be able to take  advantage of all services, including sending and receiving money from different  mobile money providers.

The telco hence advised its unregistered mobile money service customers to go ahead and do so prompty.

“Effective February 5th, 2024, you will no longer be able to send money from M-PESA to unregistered mobile money customers. As a registered mobile money customer, you will be able to send and receive money across different mobile money providers such as Airtel and T-Kash,” read the statement.

“We encourage customers who are not registered for mobile money services to register by visiting a Safaricom Shop or M-PESA Agent with their Identity Document.”

The company insists that it underscores the importance of this registration process in maintaining a secure and accountable mobile money ecosystem.

This decision is a strategic move by Safaricom to enhance security measures and regulate transactions within the mobile money landscape.
