On Saturday night, the angry people of Gaturo village in Muranga murdered a guy who had argued with his mother over a plate of food and then beheaded her.
The police said that Patrick Irungu, a well-known drug and substance addict, had come home and insisted on having his mother Magdalene Wangechi serve him ugali. But instead, his mother had made bananas, which sparked a furious argument between the two.
Things took a sharp turn for the worst when Irungu allegedly used a machete to decapitate his mother out of rage. Wangechi’s screams alerted the neighbors, who raced to the scene and saw her lifeless body in a pool of blood.
Irungu tried to leave the area after comprehending the seriousness of his acts, but locals in a nearby thicket caught him.
Unexpectedly, the angry crowd decided to administer justice themselves and lynched Irungu before anyone could stop them.
The fact that Irungu was allegedly under the influence of drugs when the incident occurred was revealed by witnesses at the scene, highlighting the grave effects that substance misuse has on both the addict and their families.
Gitonga Murungi, the Deputy County Commissioner for Murang’a South, formally verified the incident and harshly denounced the act of mob justice. He stressed the importance of following the law and orderly procedures and gave a strong caution to the populace about breaking the law on their own.
Authorities have taken the bodies of Irungu and Wangechi to Murang’a County Funeral Home while they conduct investigations into the terrible incident.
