After a 6-year-old kid was operated on by an allegedly fraudulent doctor, a family from Machakos County was left in shock. The father claims that his son was brought to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for treatment after he developed a swelled hand that was thought to be a cyst.
According to the father, the surgeon predicted that the procedure would only take forty minutes, and his son would require hospital admission.
But following the procedure, the little child’s condition worsened, and he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while the surgeon absconded.”He told me the operations had some complications but they would update me on his condition momentarily,” he said. The father claimed that the hospital had refused to allow him to see his son following the procedure.
“Even though my child just had a minor injury, they informed me that they were in serious condition. The father said, “The hospital was going to make a statement about whether or not my son is alive, but they haven’t told us anything.”He thought the hospital was hiding the possibility that his son had died in the intensive care unit. The father revealed that he had been contacted by a hospital doctor who advised him that only two members of his family ought to be present.”They only wanted my wife and me at the hospital but I refused to honour the directive,” said the husband.
He has been unable to find his son or the doctor, therefore his attempts to contact the Ministry of Health have not been very successful. Although the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) was also made aware of the situation, the family has not received much assistance. The distraught father has requested that the appropriate authorities expedite the investigations and detain the perpetrators. The number of cases involving phony professionals working in the nation has increased. An individual who had been impersonating a surgeon for sixteen years was deregistered by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU).
