The cost of obtaining passports and visas will now be higher, according to government announcements. The government said in a special gazette notice that the cost of an ordinary 66-page passport would now be Ksh12,000 instead of Ksh7,500.
A standard 34-page passport used to cost Ksh4,500, but now it costs Ksh7,500. In addition, a 50-page diplomatic paper will now cost Ksh15,000 instead of Ksh7,500, while a regular 50-page document would now cost Ksh9,500.
On the other hand, replacing a lost passport will now set you back Ksh20,000 instead of Ksh12,000, and replacing a damaged passport will set you back Ksh10,000. In the meantime, the cost of a multiple journey visa has increased from Ksh15,145 to Ksh75,725 while the rate for a single voyage visa has doubled from Ksh7,572 to Ksh15,145.
In the meantime, the formerly free visa extension will now cost Ksh30,290, and the previously free Kenyan child visa application will now cost Ksh30,290. However, there hasn’t been an increase in the price to apply for a service passport or a temporary permit passport.
The fees for immigration and other consular services are effective right now. Prior to this, CS Kindiki reorganized the whole immigration division due to a backlog in passport applications at the Nyayo residence.
In order to lessen the backlog, CS Kindiki said during the announcement that the government has instituted a 24-hour working shift. Additionally, CS Kindiki pledged to open a new immigration office in Kericho town by January 2024 in order to lessen the strain at the offices in Eldoret and Kisumu.
