Okoth Obado Appointed as UDA Nyanza Manager

In advance of the next party elections, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has  named Okoth Obado, a former governor of Migori, as its Luo Nyanza manager. Obado’s appointment was confirmed by UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala  in a statement that was made public on Friday. Malala stated that Obado was  essential to the management of the ruling party’s operations.

Obado was assigned to supervise the ruling party’s operations in Kisumu, Migori, Siaya, and Homa Bay counties. One of his main duties would be to intensify recruitment efforts among the ODM party’s and former prime minister Raila Odinga’s political constituency.

“Obado pledged to work round the clock and in close collaboration with like-minded leaders from Nyanza Region to ensure UDA’s membership index grows in the region,” according to a portion of the statement. He will also be in charge of the party’s elections, which are scheduled for December 8.

Other responsibilities include organizing events with local representatives of the ruling party, such as Charles Owino, a former police spokesperson who now works as the Siaya County Coordinator. The former governor, for his part, reaffirmed his support for Ruto’s party and promised to do his best to increase its popularity in the area.

Notably, the former governor was one of Ruto’s associates who did not receive any compensation for mobilizing Kenya Kwanza supporters ahead of the 2022 general elections. The selection of the former governor is perceived as part of the party’s plan to gain popularity in the ODM-dominated area.

The party has already established significant offices in each of the four Nyanza counties; on October 7, President William Ruto unveiled the offices in Homa Bay County.
