Introducing Service Fees at All Huduma Centres,CS Kuria
Moses Kuria, the cabinet secretary for public service, proposed on Monday charging for all services provided at Huduma Centers across the nation. Kuria indicated the fee would be used to run the centers and lessen the financial strain on the Treasury during the takeover of the State Department of Public Service.
There is no longer a free lunch; you must now pay for the services you have been receiving. Because the Huduma Center will serve as the foundation for e-commerce, we will impose a fee for service on both public and private services to sustain it, he said.
Josiah Murigu, the communication officer for Kuria, emphasized that the concept was still in its infancy. Before being put into effect, he noted, there will be public input and a presentation to Parliament.
“We have not settled on the amount yet, this is one of the many changes we want to introduce as a way of improving this ministry,” said he.Kuria added that through collaborating with the business sector, he will work with the government to expand the range of services available to Kenyans.
He continued by saying that his government had been given instructions by President William Ruto to aim toward sustainability and lessen reliance on the exchequer. “This is one of the areas (Huduma Centres) that the public sector has outshined the private sector,” he said.
The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) registration, national ID application, student loan application (HELB), driver’s license and renewal, and single business permit are only a few of the services provided at Huduma Centers.
At least 52 centers are dispersed throughout the nation, and the government wants to increase that number. Former President Uhuru Kenyatta launched Huduma Centers as a component of Vision 2030.
