CS Duale Launches Crackdown in Marakwet After Bandits Kill Murkomen Kin

Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has issued a seven-day ultimatum to DCI officers and Chiefs from Marakwet, Pokot, and Baringo to reduce instability in the region. This comes after claims that bandits in the area have slain at least eleven people, including a relative of Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen.

The CS handed along a list of 20 suspects to the DCI officers and Chiefs, who were to be detained or punished within seven days. When he was touring the region, he obtained the list from elders in Marakwet and Pokot.

According to security reports, over ten individuals have died in the last month as a result of pasture and property disputes.”We haven’t come here to celebrate a birthday.” “I have the names of the OCSs who are working with those criminals,” he said.

Duale went on to say that the government would deal with them in the same way that it deals with security agents who assist with terrorists.”We will treat security officers the same way who condone death and destruction in the North Rift,” he said.Duale promised to establish two military camps in the region to ensure peace in the region.Murkomen, who was present at the conference, pledged that 13 roads will be built in Kerio Valley to alleviate insecurity.

During the meeting, Duale argued with Elgeyo Marakwet Woman Representative  Caroline Jeptoo on the deployment of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers. Jeptoo had stated that no KDF soldiers from the Marakwet and Pokot communities  should be stationed in the area. Duale grabbed the Woman Representative’s microphone and warned her not to  introduce tribalism into the military.
