The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has decided to post and replace the majority of acting teachers with promoted staff members after the final release of the teacher promotion slots.

TSC has stated that those in acting capacity who have not been successful in getting promotions in the past will be replaced.

The TSC’s recently announced changes are expected to have an impact on educators who have held a variety of administrative positions, including acting principals, senior masters, headteachers, deputy headteachers, and deputy principals.

In late 2023, TSC released an advertisement for 36,505 promotion slots. Those who were selected for promotion are currently obtaining letters of promotion from their respective county directors at their places of employment.

Since several teachers in the sector retired in January, a large number of deputies took on the roles of acting principal and headteacher, thus the teacher promotion process has continued.

The employer, TSC, instructed county and sub-county directors to closely monitor the school management process in order to guarantee seamless transitions and avoid the occurrence of vacancies in schools.

The TSC conducted teacher promotion interviews in December and January of 2024, with approximately 150,000 teachers who were fortunate enough to be selected for further consideration.

The TSC directed that the successful teacher candidates submit five required Chapter 6 documents, including a valid Certificate of Good Conduct, a clearance certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), and a Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), before they receive their appointment letters to take on various positions.

Additionally, they will have to present a clearance certificate from an authorized Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) as well as one from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
