KFCB Pardons Embarambamba After Complies With Directives

On Thursday, March 14, the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Management declared that after singer Embarambamba complied with the board’s conditions, it had pardoned him.

The declaration was released following a meeting between the film board and the contentious self-described gospel singer at KFCB’s Nairobi offices, situated at Uchumi House.

Embarambamba and other members of his legal team, including attorney Danstan Omari, arrived to the board’s offices.

“It is noteworthy that in response to the Demand Notice, Embarambamba, through his legal team, requested an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in accordance with Article 159 of the Kenyan Constitution,” KFCB stated.

“The artist has since removed hundreds of offensive music videos from his YouTube channel, as confirmed by the Board.”KFCB claims that Embarambamba’s request for pardon was accepted following his public admission of guilt for his noncompliance.

Embarambamba further committed to creating, distributing and exhibiting content that conforms to Kenya’s culture, moral values and national aspirations. The agency required the artist to avoid inappropriate content for minors and vulnerable adults.

“As a result of Embarambamba’s commitment, it was agreed that the artist will comply with the remaining areas of the Demand Notice, in line with the filming and classification requirements,” read part of a statement by KFCB.

Meanwhile, the board noted Embarambamba’s counterpart, William Getumbe would be arraigned in court on March 15 after he defied the orders.

Embarambamba and William Gutembe were given an order by KFCB on February 28 to remove all of their lewd films from all streaming services. KFCB claims that noncompliance will lead to legal action under Kenya’s laws, including the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap. 222.

A portion of the letter stated, “Embrambamba and Getumbe have been issued a demand letter to remove any inappropriate content from their various platforms.”
