Kalonzo to Sue CS Chirchir and PS Wachira

In response to the Embakasi gas disaster, Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka promised on Wednesday that his legal firm would sue Cabinet Secretary for Energy Davis Chirchir as well as two other government officials.

The State Department of Environment & Climate Change’s principal secretary, Alex Wachira, and his colleague from the State Department of Energy are also scheduled to be named in the impending case.

Kalonzo believes that those in positions of leadership ought to bear the brunt of the responsibility for the event, which claimed the lives of six individuals and injured several others.

“My legal team has the ability to go on record with others, and we are certain that we might need to file lawsuits against the Permanent Secretary for the Environment, the Cabinet Secretary for Energy, and the PS for Energy, who oversees EPRA,” stated the former Vice President.

In his speech, he also urged the government to compensate the victims in a timely manner.He noted that the victims should each be compensated Ksh 500,000 or more citing that they sustained fatal injuries during the explosion.

He was accompanied in his remarks by Babu Owino, the Member of Parliament for Embakasi East, who has been pressuring the administration to provide just compensation to the victims.

As of right now, four people have been taken into custody in connection with the incident; one of them is the proprietor of the Mradi Village gas plant.To enable additional inquiries into the case, the four people who were arraigned in court are being detained for the next 21 days.

The four suspects are allegedly being considered for accusations of preferring murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, negligence, causing harm, and abuse of office.Nevertheless, despite various leaders calling for his arrest, the Cabinet Secretary for Energy has not yet responded to comments on the subject.
