Moses Kuria unveils NYS recruitment team

A team that will be in charge of the National Youth Service recruiting drive was presented today by Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria of the Ministry of Public Service and Performance.Kuria stated that over 15,000 men and women will be enlisted in the military during the exercise, which is scheduled to start on Monday of next week.He stated that the nationwide recruiting will take place from February 5 to February 9, 2024, with a follow-up round scheduled for July.

“I want to emphasize the need of adhering to a clear and verifiable process as I introduce the team that will oversee the process. Kuria stated, “We are committed to addressing the shortcomings in the previous recruitment process this time around to guarantee that each candidate gets an equal chance.According to the CS, recruiting will be ward-based, with recruits assigned to each ward depending on population density.

Kuria insisted that the service members would be given preference for integration into the Kenya Defence Forces and the National Police service after they graduated. The KDF was instructed by the immediate former president Uhuru Kenyatta in 2021 to double the number of National Youth Service (NYS) graduates it recruits.

KDF recruited about 1,000 young men and women after receiving the order, down from 500.President William Ruto ordered the National Police Service, Kenya Forestry Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, and Kenya Defence Forces to hire eighty percent of their applicant pool from New York State a year later.

Kuria stated that most candidates have an opportunity to be incorporated into these institutes after completing their training because of President Ruto’s decision.”The core of the government’s current labor export program is New York State. We intend to send NYS service members abroad. We have already started to facilitate passport issuance at NYS Headquarters in Ruaraka, indicating that the labor export process is under way,” he stated.According to Kuria, seventy percent of Kenya’s population is under the age of thirty.

“We need the youth to drive our economic transformation agenda. The Kenya Kwanza Administration is committed to ensure that every young person has an equal opportunity,” he said.
