Candidates who attended schools under the 8-4-4 system would have four years to complete any outstanding exam requirements, Prof. Julius Nyabundi, Chairperson of the KNEC, said on Monday.Prof. Nyabundi stated that there were only four cycles remaining in the 8-4-4 system, meaning that pupils had just four years remaining to resolve any KCSE exam-related concerns. This was stated during the announcement of the 2023 results.

“The KCSE exams will still be administered in four cycles under the 8-4-4 educational system. It is urged that candidates with outstanding examination concerns be cleared, stated Prof. Nyabundi in a statement.The Chairman added that there was a four-year window for anyone who wished to retake the KCSE exams.

Furthermore, supplemental exams will be available to students who did not take the exams.”Anyone who would like to retake any exams, complete or partial, may do so within these four years,” the chairman said.

The President ordered an investigation into the situation after learning that 3000 enrolled students did not show up for the tests, according to statistics made public by the Ministry of Education.In a statement on the subject, CS Machogu mentioned that certain schools engaged in exam misconduct by fabricating student enrollment in order to meet the registration requirement of thirty. “I, therefore, direct the relevant directorate of quality assurance to work with KNEC to investigate the 3,685 candidates who failed to sit for the exams with the view to unearthing their true identity and whereabouts,” the secretary of state stated.

In the 2023 KCSE exams, the CS announced that over 4,000 students were involved in exam malpractices. The CS noted that the exams were marred by malpractices even as the government heightened the measures against pre-exposure to the papers.

The number of students that took the KCSE exams last year was 903,260, a rise from the 881,416 applicants who did so in 2022.KNEC emphasized that the four-year duration allotted to the students was intended to lessen traffic and misunderstanding among CBC program participants in subsequent years.
