Chaos Erupt Over Simba Arati Impeachment Push

Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) began trading insults on Wednesday,  causing chaos at the Kisii County Assembly. As a result, the session ended early  because the majority of the MCAs left the room. The conversation reportedly started because of the problems facing Kisii Governor  Simba Arati, who was raided by General Service Unit (GSU) officers on Monday,  October 30, in his office at Gusii Stadium.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MCAs accused their United Democratic  Alliance (UDA) colleagues during the session of trying to impeach the governor  in a previous session, which resulted in a shouting altercation. One of the ODM MCAs said during the meeting, “We challenge you, come it on.  There are honorable members who want to take us behind, that they want to  impeach the Governor.

Another MCA claimed, “The GSU officers entered the Governor’s office without warning and ransacked it without a search warrant.”The ODM MCAs denounced the abuses inflicted upon Governor Arati, asserting that the government is abusing security services for political purposes.

In order to prevent a recurrence of the incident in the future, the MCAs connected to ODM also demanded additional inquiries and asked the federal government to bolster security at the county chief’s homes and offices.

Following the declarations made by the ODM MCAs, the UDA MCAs, who were seated across the aisle, refuted the accusations.By now, some of the MCAs had left the chambers, while others were still inside the home, cursing and swearing. This comes after GSU officers barricaded the governor from entering Arati’s office at Gusii Stadium on Monday, October 30.

The same day, ODM demanded an end to what it called Governors’ harassment  and denounced the siege. The governor was allegedly prevented from entering his office and performing his  duties the previous week by a large number of police officers stationed in Kisii  town, according to Secretary General Edwin Sifuna. The party went on to say that authorities intended to raid Simba Arati’s personal homes.
