Ruto Right-Hand Man Replaces Ezra Chiloba’s Position
David Mugonyi has been named the new Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya by ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo.Following Ezra Chiloba’s October suspension, Mugonyi will assume leadership of the regulator, according to a notice from the CS dated Wednesday.
Mugonyi was the State House’s Communication Secretary prior to being appointed.The communication specialist has served as President William Ruto’s spokeswoman in the past and is a steadfast ally.
He also served as communication secretary in the Office of the Deputy President(ODP) between 2013 to 2022.Notably, his appointment at CA was also confirmed by the Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei.
“We also observe that the Board has requested approval to appoint David Mugonyi as Director General of the Authority.””In view of the foregoing, and in furtherance of circulars nos. OP/CAB.9/1A dated November 25, 2022, and April 3, 2023, respectively, concurrence is hereby given for the appointment of David Mugonyi as Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya,” read a portion of Koskei’s letter.
The board is anticipated to finalize Mugonyi’s team of service before he takes charge at CA.The DG position has been unfilled since Chiloba was suspended due to accusations of corruption.
Chiloba also submitted his resignation to the board on October 18, despite the fact that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is still looking into the accusations. In an acting role, Christopher Wambua was named head of the CA.
