Special KCPE Exams in January
Special Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) tests are scheduled for January, according to Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu. Given that the 2023 KCPE marked the final administration by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) as the nation completed its transition to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), this decision attempts to address the situation of students who did not participate in the national examinations.
During the release of the 2023 KCPE results at Mtihani House, CS Machogu emphasized that the special examination will cater to nearly 9,000 students who missed the exam for various reasons. This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to achieving the 100 percent transition policy.
In due future, the Ministry of Education will release the exact dates for the 2024 special exams. CS Machogu stressed the significance of this particular test in guaranteeing that each applicant from the last 2023 KCPE cohort will be able to enroll in Form One.
He urged those who missed the 2023 national examinations to take advantage of the upcoming special exams. Additionally, Machogu noted that over 200 students who were not initially registered for the 2023 examinations were allowed to participate, aligning with the understanding that these exams marked the conclusion of the current examination system.
Students in Form One will be placed beginning on Monday, November 27, in preparation for the school’s reopening in January 2024. The first term of 2024 is set to begin on January 8, which will signal the start of yet another significant stage in Kenya’s educational reforms and the complete adoption of the CBC.
