EACC To Train KNEC Officials How to Prevent Exam Cheating
In advance of this year’s national examinations, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) will start taking part in a discussion on ethics and integrity on Monday, October 16. The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) forum will be attended by 2023 Examination Monitors and Ministry of Education officials, including Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu and his principal secretaries, according to a statement from the anti-graft organization.
Senior executives and KNEC Council members are anticipated as well.The discussion will take place at the KNEC headquarters on Nairobi County’s Dennis Pritt Road. The EACC claims that the sensitization will address any systemic flaws and gaps that undermine the validity of national exams.
The EACC’s action comes days after the National Assembly Committee on Education’s report, which confirmed that there were instances of exam fraud last year, was issued.The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) handled 68 exam misconduct complaints in total, with 44 of them still under investigation, according to information provided by a Parliament Committee.
Six cases have already been prosecuted, while 17 other cases are still pending in court. Following public outcry over alleged widespread cheating, the committee began their investigation in January 2023, one week after the release of the 2022 national test results.
A week before the start of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (KCSE), EACC made a new step. The KCSE exams are scheduled to begin on Monday, October 23, with practice beginning on Thursday, October 19.
The final exam for candidates will be held on Friday, November 24. Exams for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) will start on October 30 and end on November 1 of 2023, respectively.
