Nairobi Residents Report Earth Tremors on Wednesday

On Wednesday, June 6, in the afternoon, Nairobi residents reported feeling weak earth earthquakes.

As to the accounts collated by Kenyans.co.ke from social media reports, the event took place approximately at 1:20 pm.

A few of the impacted areas are Embakasi, Kasarani, and Westlands.

Furthermore, a few people who live in the Nairobi satellite towns in Ngong and Thika claimed to have felt the earth tremble.

Some of the city people who witnessed the event described how the tremor was characterized by a slight shaking of the ground, which resulted in the windows, doors, and furniture swaying.

“My chair shook, and I also felt the drapes and the water bottle on my table tremble. It was a frightening yet short encounter.

“I felt compelled to investigate what was going on outside, but everything appeared to be normal. The earthquake lasted for about thirty seconds, according to Dennis Kibet, a Thika-based journalist for Kenyans.co.ke.

Remarkably, the event was also recorded by Volcano Discovery and other earthquake monitoring websites.

“On June 5, 2024 (GMT), at around 10:20 GMT, we are receiving unverified early reports of ground shaking that may be related to seismic activity in or near Nairobi, Nairobi Area, Kenya.

The potential earthquake’s depth and magnitude are yet unknown. If verified, additional precise information should surface in the next minutes. A portion of the preliminary report stated, “The location, magnitude, and time mentioned are indicative, based on our best-fit seismic model.”

It is still unknown how big of an incident Wednesday was and what caused it specifically.
