How Charlene & Rachel Defied Ruto to Attend Ogolla’s Burial
On Sunday, April 21, President William Ruto said he was taken aback by the extent to which his family was inspired by the late Chief of Defense Forces Francis Ogolla.
Speaking at Ogolla’s funeral, the President of State disclosed that he had instructed his daughter Charlene Ruto not to speak at the funeral or even to attend.
“I was shocked to learn that Ogolla had a big influence on my daughter. I was truly amazed. Charlene called me yesterday, saying that she was here and that I had to attend General Ogolla’s funeral.”
“Charlene, there is no place you are going and no way you are going to talk anywhere,” I informed her. But as luck would have it, she ended up here, and before I knew it, she was speaking,” Ruto said.
Ruto was amazed by Charlene’s speech and laughed out loud when she was done and went to her seat.
Reminiscent of her chats with the late CDF, Charlene added that he served as a mentor to the majority of Kenyan youth.
However, the Head of State mentioned that he had asked his wife, Rachel Ruto, to take a break because she was present at the late CDF’s Saturday procession.
To ease the difficult circumstances for Ogolla’s wife and her children, Rachel insisted on going to the funeral.
Ruto emphasized that these were but a few instances of the influence Ogolla’s personality and leadership had on the country.
He reaffirmed that, given the opportunity, he would name Ogolla the CDF once more in light of his exceptional record and credentials. Ruto went on to say that only qualified candidates are appointed by his administration.
“Many people say a lot of things because they do not understand what those of us who have worked with General Ogolla know about his potential and what he would have done for our country,” Ruto said.
The close ties between the two families were demonstrated by the family of the deceased general, led by his son Joel Rabuku.
On Thursday, April 18, a tragic helicopter crash in West Pokot County claimed the lives of Ogolla and nine other people.
