Deaths Reported in Suspected Terrorist Attack in Lamu

Following a suspected Al-Shabaab attack, multiple deaths were reported in the Milhoi area of Lamu County on Tuesday, April 9. Terrorists are said to have targeted and set a truck and a pickup on fire close to the Bagdam Bridge on the far North Coast.

To investigate and gather information regarding the possible circumstances that preceded the attack, police have been called to the scene.

Two deaths have been confirmed thus far after the intense gunfire exchange.

Motorists and civilians in the area have been advised to take extra precautions as the suspected terrorists are still on the loose. A manhunt to track down the suspects has since been launched with law enforcement officers operating on intelligence that the assailants are heavily armed.

“Members of the public and motorists plying Garsen-Witu-Lamu urged to be extra cautious and vigilant during these times,” warned Lamu County Watch.

This incident, which happened today, is the second terror attack in less than a month that targets Kenyans.

Six Meru businessmen were killed on Good Friday in an attack in Somalia’s Dhobley area, close to the Garissa border, that was claimed by the Al-Shabaab group.

Ali Manduku, the Deputy County Commissioner for Liboi, stated that business rivalry was the reason behind the early-morning attack.

Over the years, Garissa has been the target of multiple terror attacks. The Northern region is bordered by the Lamu region.

On Sunday, however, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua asserted that Kenya has not seen a terror attack in the previous two years, attributing this to the measures implemented by the Kenya Kwanza Government.
