ECDE Teachers Receive PnP Jobs

Over 900 Early Childhood Development  Education (ECDE) teachers are being moved  from contract to permanent and pensionable  terms (PNP) by the Kisii County Public  Service Board (PSB).

Governor Simba Arati has mandated that these instructors receive letters attesting  to their permanent and pensionable employment after the process is complete.

Governor Arati emphasized the importance of ECDE in children’s psychological, academic, and social development. He acknowledged that the well-being of teachers plays a crucial role in enhancing services and performance in the early years education sector. Governor Arati expressed gratitude to the ECDE teachers for their vital responsibility in imparting basic education and life skills to young children.

The move to employ ECDE teachers on more favorable terms aligns with Governor Arati’s campaign promises, highlighting his commitment to improving the department through better-equipped centers, facilitation, and enhanced remuneration for teachers. The governor reassured the teachers that their terms of service would be reconsidered, transitioning from contract to permanent establishment, as pledged during his campaign.

Governor Arati asserted that the Kisii County Public Service Board, now in office, has prioritized expediting the review of ECDE teacher engagements for potential placement on favorable terms in permanent employment. He emphasized the need to address all pending matters involving ECDE teachers, including the establishment of a scheme of service to streamline operations.

Highlighting that ECDE teachers have been on contract for the past decade with minimal improvement in terms of service, Governor Arati expressed appreciation for the teachers’ patience and dedication to their cause. He emphasized the County Government’s commitment to providing quality education for young learners, ensuring a solid foundation for their future well-being.

With over 70,000 ECDE learners across 703 centers in the county, Governor Arati detailed the annual allocation of over Sh600 million to the Department of Education. This funding supports ECDE programs, including salaries for administrative staff and teachers, materials, and infrastructure development.

The governor also described the ongoing efforts to build state-of-the-art ECDE centers around the county, complete with play equipment, teaching aids,  and other necessities for a child’s growth.

Governor Arati also underlined the administration’s commitment to competency-based curriculum alignment and on-the-job professional development and capacity building for ECDE teachers and  administrative staff.

The Public employment Board has been charged with reviewing the case of nurses  who were terminated from employment under mysterious circumstances  approximately two years ago as part of resolving outstanding staff problems.
