46 000 Teacher Employment Slots Announced by Govt
The government has announced 46,000 positions for TSC teachers. According to a statement, the government would give the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Sh26.3 billion so that it may hire 46,000 skilled teachers.
This plan was unveiled by Ndindi Nyoro, the head of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee, who said that TSC will hire 26,000 junior secondary school teachers who are now finishing their internships.
At the official presentation of the Wundanyi Constituency NG-CDF strategic plan on Saturday, Nyoro said that an additional 20,000 intern teachers will be hired starting in July to help address the current teacher shortage in junior secondary schools.
For the first time, the Ministry of Education was given the largest share of the 2024–2025 budget in order to raise educational standards.
According to Nyoro, the 2024–2025 budget estimates called for the ministry of education sector to get 27% of the funding for the year starting on July 1, 2024.
Nyoro claims that TSC will receive cash in July 2024 to give permanent employment to 26,000 JSS instructors who are currently employed under contract.
He added that TSC intends to add 20,000 more instructors in an attempt to bridge the gap that many schools are now experiencing.The lawmaker inspired hope among the populace that the Kenya Kwanza administration is willing to allocate a greater share of the national budget to education.
According to him, this will be a part of programs designed to assist Kenyans in paying for the exorbitant cost of sending their children to school.
TSC has admitted that junior secondary schools are grappling with severe teacher shortages.Macharia said the schools require 99,045 teachers against the current number of 56,928.
“The government is continuously funding schools to progressively bridge the staffing gap. In the next financial year, TSC has requested funds to hire an additional 20,000 teachers to bridge the gap,” said Dr Macharia.
