Man Who Hacked Mother To Death Arrested

A 30-year-old man from Riakinia village in Ndia Constituency, Kirinyaga County on Thursday night hacked his 56-year-old mother to death using a machete.

The assailant, Murimi Maina, reportedly descended on his mother, Jane Nyambura Maina, following a disagreement over coffee crops cultivated on a parcel of land.

Kirinyaga West Sub-County Police Commander Moses Koskei confirmed the event and said that the suspect, Murimi Maina, was caught trying to sell his phone to raise money for a transport cost so he could leave the county. Maina was taken into custody in Kagumo, Kirinyaga Central Constituency.

“He is currently being held at Baricho Police Station,” stated Koskei.

Maina, a butcher by trade, descended on his mother, Jane Nyambura Maina, after she allegedly destroyed 20 coffee plants that he had cultivated on her land.

Before killing his mother with a machete, he is said to have threatened her with  dire consequences for her behavior.

“He made good his threat and killed her by cutting her body into pieces,” said the police commander.

The accused is then reported to have fled the scene after the attack.The body of the deceased has since been moved to Kerugoya Hospital mortuary as a manhunt for Murimi continues.
