Ruto Ally Describes Raila’s AU Endorsement as Gift
Farouk Kibet, a personal assistant to President William Ruto, finally spoke out on Sunday about the government’s stance on Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s bid to lead the African Union (AU) Commission.Speaking at an AIC Church fundraiser in Tapsagoi, Uasin Gishu County, Farouk called the ruling United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) decision to support the former prime minister’s candidacy a gift to the head of the opposition.
Farouk took advantage of the chance to refute the idea that Raila is receiving support from the government out of fear and as a way to gradually remove him from active politics in Kenya.
“We are not giving this work to him out of fear; rather, we are giving it to him as a token, and even God will see that we are kind Kenyans,” Farouk said.
In addition, Farouk also explained that the ruling coalition has had enough of the opposition chief claiming that he had been rigged out after every election cycle. Additionally, Farouk alleged that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Chairperson John Mbadi has been working behind the scenes to ensure that his boss does not ascend to the top AU seat.
As he was speaking, Farouk pushed Raila to go back and clarify how and why he supposedly lost the respect of steadfast allies like Mbadi.
Farouk claimed, “His people are leading the opposition to him; people like Mbadi do not want this man to go to the AU.”
These comments follow Ida Odinga, Raila’s spouse, declaring that she thinks Mbadi to succeed her husband as the Luo Nyanza politician after Raila leaves the political arena.
In a similar vein, Jeremiah Kioni, a close associate of former president Uhuru Kenyatta, refuted rumors that the previous Head of State was favoring Jakaya Kikwete over Raila for the AU seat. This coincides with Farouk’s accusations of sabotage by aides to Raila.
Kioni emphasized that the outgoing president will use his connections in the area to secure support for Raila.According to the ex-MP for Ndaragwa, Uhuru still firmly believes in Raila.
