UoN Lecturer Found Dead Days After Going Missing
A University of Nairobi (UoN) political science lecturer’s body was discovered three days after he was reported missing in the city’s streets on Monday, February 26. Police are currently looking into the death.According to reports, onlookers discovered Dr. Samuel Mbutu Mararo’s lifeless body near the bus station and took it to the city mortuary.
When Mararo did not return to his Kariobangi home for three days, the lecturer’s family became concerned and filed a missing person’s report.But three days later, they received word of his untimely demise.
Attempts to get in touch with Mararo’s brother Joseph Wambugu were unsuccessful since he asked to talk later after taking care of business at the City Mortuary.Wambugu had already told the media that he believed his brother had been drugged and had had his goods, including a laptop and a cell phone, stolen.
He stated that before to being attacked by unidentified attackers, the lecturer was on his way to his residence in Kariobangi. Wambugu further disclosed that the thieves had taken out an unspecified sum of money from his mobile money account.
Since then, police investigators’ preliminary investigations have shown that the suspects escaped to the Kayole area before going into hiding. Since then, the police have started looking into the murder in order to identify the culprits and determine its motivation.
The incident is one of many criminal acts that have been reported to police stations throughout the city, underscoring the current surge in crime.As per the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) Economic Survey 2023 report, Nairobi County had the greatest number of crimes with 8,512, followed by Kiambu (7,844) and Meru (5,698).Based on the data, the most often reported crimes were moral offenses and robberies.
