More Schools to Pay Fees Via eCitizen
On Monday, the government, represented by Immigration Principal Secretary Julius Bitok, announced that more schools would be included to the eCitizen school tuition payment program. The PS said in a statement that all additional county and county schools will have to use the consolidated government platform to pay tuition following a successful deployment in national schools.
“To ensure a smooth rollout, the new payment system will be implemented in phases beginning with national schools and subsequently extending to extra county and county schools,” stated a portion of the announcement.
According to Bitok, the action is intended to standardize the way that school payments are collected and to encourage openness and responsibility.Additionally, the PS clarified via the eCitizen platform that the government will efficiently oversee the system to verify adherence to pertinent policies and guidelines controlling the assessment and settlement of fees in public secondary schools.
He said that in order to guarantee that principals can obtain cash on time, the government has already established a convenient and transparent payment collecting procedure.
All listed schools will be required to submit their banking details to the Ministry of Education to facilitate payment via the platform.Stakeholders including school heads and parents were urged to voice their concerns and reservations on the new payment plan to the Ministry.
“We are open to discussion to discussions and other inputs that will support the objectives of the directive,” Bitok stated.Bitok’s statement comes after Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang ordered all national schools to pay school fees via the platform. This new development was met with criticism from Kenyans who noted that this may slow down operations in schools.
President William took the initiative to switch to eCitizen in order to standardize payments for all State entities. Ruto gave all government entities instructions to make sure that payments are made using a single Paybill, 222222, in June of last year.Kenyans have voiced complaints regarding the delays and inconveniences resulting from adhering to the new procedure ever since the government began enforcing it.
