UDA MP Threatens to Lead Protests Into State House
Over water distribution in the constituency, women in the Maragua Constituency, led by local parliamentarian Mary Wamaua, have vowed to plan a march to the state house.During a protest, a member of parliament for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) bemoaned the Murang’a South Water and Sanitation Company Ltd.’s (MUSWASCO) disregard for water distribution regulations.
Wamaua demanded that the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) investigate the matter, threatening to stage a statehouse march in the event that the problem is not resolved quickly.”We will march to the state house if the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) fails to reexamine the non-compliance by Murang’a South Water and Sanitation Company Ltd (MUSWASCO),” Wamaua declared.
Women bemoaned how tough their lives had become owing to poor hygiene brought on by a scarcity of water in a speech to the media during the demonstration.”Water is scarce for us. Everywhere you go in Maragua, you’ll discover people weeping because there isn’t enough water. One of the women said, “Women are not clean; just come to Kenol and see how people are dirty; there isn’t even water for one to give birth.”
In addition, despite their repeated complaints, locals accused the Murang’a County government of showing indifference to their problems with the provision of water in the community. The women added that the crisis was even having an impact on local education, as school-age children had to temporarily put their studies on hold in order to find water.
“Children who have to travel to the rivers for water after school have no time to study. What is the governor of our state doing? “People are suffering due to water scarcity,” a local who was present at the protests said.
She also mentioned how she was afraid the locals might contract infections because the water they had been using was unclean and looked green.Pauline Njeri, a UDA-nominated member of the Muranga County Assembly, added to the MP’s comments by saying she was prepared to participate in the march to restore women’s dignity.
“We will not back down as the UDA Party’s ladies in Muranga County are represented by us. We won’t stand by and watch as women suffer from a lack of water for cooking and even for bathing,” she declared.
