How Ruto’s Car Nearly Rolled After Tyre Burst
Meru On Friday, Senator Kathuri Murungi said that the bad condition of the Embu-Meru Highway was the reason why President William Ruto’s car almost overturned. The UDA party senator claimed that Ruto was worried after his automobile tire exploded while he was on a three-day working tour in the area.
Kathuri thus issued an ultimatum to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to repair the road which he alleged was nearly impassable. He also urged the authority’s Director General to visit Meru and the neighbouring Tharaka Nithi and Embu Counties to assess ongoing projects. “The President’s car had to stop after hitting a pothole. If the President himself is in danger on our roads, who is safe?” Kathuri asked.
He also felt sorry for the President, since he had gone through a horrific situation that almost put the country’s security at jeopardy. Consider a scenario in which the presidential motorcade was traveling at a downward pace. Just consider the outcome for the head of state! He questioned.
Ruto’s salvation, according to Kathuri, was that the car was going uphill at the time of the reported event. The Meru Senator expressed sadness for the terrible condition of the roads in Meru County and charged KeNHA of negligence in spite of funding for road construction and upkeep.
He said that KeNHA officials may have embezzled money through illegitimate tender awards, which is why infrastructure construction has been moving slowly. We were unable to independently confirm these claims. Kathuri warned, saying, “We are taxpayers and if the roads are not maintained then you will tell us why you are in office.”
