Drama broke out on Monday at the Nakuru Memorial Hospital when a vengeful family approached and drove away a Nakuru kanjo who had allegedly removed a dialysis machine from their family member, thereby endangering their life.Journalists captured the incident on camera, during which the staffer’s family members were heard questioning him why he had taken such harsh measures and seemed to be baying for his blood.
“This is so incorrect; there is no way you can do it. Who do you think you are and why are you fleeing?” One of the relatives inquired. The Nakuru County employee left the area while talking on his phone in an effort to avoid the altercation. The family members followed the officer and continued to interrogate him since they were not happy with the answers they had been receiving up to that point. But he remained silent.
This did not stop the irate family from asking the officer if he was aware of the full ramifications of his conduct and the significance of dialysis for individuals suffering from renal issues. One of the individuals demonstrating against the kanjo once forced him to the ground. But his fellow cops came to his aid.
Responding to the incident, Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja condemned the act and called upon Governor Susan Kihika to intervene and resolve the matter as soon as possible. She also revealed that she will escalate the matter to President William Ruto, who is expected to visit Nakuru on Tuesday, January 23.
“Fortunately, President William Ruto is coming to Nakuru tomorrow. As a Senator for Nakuru County, I am going to ask him whether the Nakuru people elected us, overwhelming only for them to have their lives threatened at the hospital. This must stop,” she stated.
The unfortunate incident was one of the negative consequences of the protracted battle between the Nakuru County Government and the hospital’s management which have both laid claim to ownership and are attempting to take over control of the facility.
According to records kept by the government, Governor Kihika claims that the hospital’s directors and other government workers stole the land the hospital is located on, claiming it was intended for public use.”We shall not relent and we shall not be intimidated, public land will remain to be public land,” she said on Monday. In relation to the ownership dispute, at least five people have been detained thus far and are facing accusations of forgery, conspiracy to commit fraud, and abuse of office.
