Qualifications For Police Reservists Recruitment

On Thursday, January 11, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) disclosed the qualifications needed to become a member of the National Police Reserve. According to IPOA, the National Security Council (NSC) is in charge of the nationwide open recruitment process for police reservists.

The NSC also establishes how many reserve police officers are required at any one moment. When it comes to upholding peace and order inside Kenyan borders, National Police Reservists (NPR) are a valuable addition to other disciplined forces.

Eligibility

NPR, according to IPOA, is made up of Kenyan citizens who are between the ages of 18 and 55. Applicants for the National Police, Military, and National Youth Service must be Kenyan citizens by birth; this condition differs from theirs.

After then, interested Kenyan citizens must sign up as reserve police officers and volunteer for duty.It is not possible for members of the disciplined forces to apply to be police reservists.

Mandate

While technically civilians, the reservists play a crucial role in maintaining law and order.

“The Reserve may be deployed in Kenya to assist the Kenya Police Service or the Administration Police Service in their respective mandates,” IPOA stated.

The scope of NPR’s duty includes the maintenance of law and order; preservation of peace; protection of life and property; prevention and detection of crime; apprehension of offenders; and enforcement of all laws and regulations with which the Service is charged.

Terms of Service

The reservists receive uniforms, service identity cards, and firearms after being enlisted. Then, much like in disciplined troops, they are dispersed around the nation under the direction of clearly defined orders and monitoring systems. Before being deployed, all reservists are subject to screening and training.

According to IPOA, “A person serving as a Reserve police officer shall be subject to the same regulations as a police officer and shall be under the supervision of the Service.” The pertinent laws of the National Police Service Act and the Constitution must be understood by all police reserve officers.
