KNEC Dismisses Claims Nyambaria High School Topped
The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations for 2023 were allegedly won by Nyambaria High School, however this was refuted by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) on Monday.A post purporting to be from the Nyamira County school with an average grade of A was reported by KNEC.
A widely shared social media post claims that the school received an average grade of A plain in every subject. Kenyans who were impressed by the performance shared the post, particularly in light of the fact that the institution performed well in the tests held the year before.
Senator Okong’o Omogeni of Nyamira County also published the results, praising the institution for what he called “exemplary performance.”Notably, allegations of wrongdoing at Nyambaria High School grabbed headlines during exam season. Exam officials were forced away by students in November after they complained about invasive searches.Charles Onyari, the principal, was also placed on suspension for allegedly taking part in irregularities with exams.
Although KNEC rejected the results, it did not name the top school and instead asked students to check their scores on results.knec.ac.ke.Schools, students, and parents around the nation were observed celebrating the results of the 2023 KCSE when they were announced.Ezekiel Machogu, cabinet secretary for education, disclosed the results, stating that 3,685 of the 903,138 registered students did not take the tests. For the national exams, about 452,463 male and 450,675 female students registered.
More students than in 2022 took the exam; 1,216 of the pupils who took it received straight As. A further 201,133 pupils met the admission requirements for the institution with scores higher than C+ (plus).Furthermore, 7,254 pupils received an A-(minus), 18,078 received a B+, 36,728 received a B, 78,343 received a C+, and 694,400 received a score below the C+.CS Machogu has guaranteed that every student will transfer 100% to higher education institutions.
