Age Heavy Trucks And Fuel Tankers Drivers To Attain
Were you aware that the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) sets age restrictions for Kenyans wishing to operate heavy-duty vehicles like fuel tankers? The NTSA’s criteria state that heavy-duty vehicles fall into four groups, each with specific age restrictions as outlined below;
Light Goods Vehicles
In Kenya, the minimum age to operate a light commercial vehicle is 22 years old. It is also necessary to have at least four years of driving experience and to not have committed any dangerous driving offenses in the two years prior.In accordance with the specifications, candidates must also possess certifications from their medical exams and police clearance.
Medium Goods Vehicles
NTSA guidelines provide that only Kenyans of 24 years and above can drive these vehicles. Cement and steel roll delivery trucks are two types of medium goods vehicles.Drivers must have a police check, a medical certification, and a minimum of four years of driving experience, same like in light goods trucks.
Heavy Goods Vehicles
These are larger trucks that transport cargo in enclosed spaces known as containers. These cars need drivers to be at least 28 years old. NTSA also requires one to have two years of experience driving a light or medium truck. Additionally, one should have a minimum of four years driving experience.Medical certification is also required.
Special Heavy Goods
These vehicles transport dangerous materials like oxygen, fuel, caustic materials, and oxygen. These cars need drivers to be at least thirty years old. However, a course on the vehicles is required of anyone who wants to operate one of these. The Special HGV course is known as Unit 25. For both the theory and practical exams, there are retests.
