Athlete Benjamin Kiplagat, who was born in Kenya, was captured on camera earlier this Sunday before he passed away. The athlete could be seen in the video rushing through Kimumu Junction in Eldoret around 1:15 in the morning, appearing to avoid being caught by his critics.
While driving a black Toyota Hilux, Kiplagat turned the corner at high speed and crashed into a ditch. Minutes later, two men rushed to the scene and stabbed him to death, leaving him by the roadside.
The duo proceeded to flee from the scene to avoid being identified by passersby.According to local police commander Stephen Okal, detectives used the footage to apprehend two suspects in Uasin Gishu County and Trans Nzoia County respectively.
He affirmed that the two individuals under suspicion are well-known offenders who have been intimidating members of the public. “We are in the advanced stage of the investigations and we will possibly be sending them to court tomorrow,” he said. The 34-year-old man had multiple knife wounds to his neck and chest when his body was discovered in a car on Saturday night.Detectives think that the athlete was approached and killed by the two men after he struck their motorcycle with his car, even if the reason for the murder is still unknown.
“It’s likely that this incited them to commit that violent act,” Okal informed the press.A knife that was thought to be the murder weapon was discovered with one of the suspects, who the cops detained.Tomorrow, the two suspects are scheduled to appear in court and be charged with murder.
