Police Arrest Landlord Who Assaulted Tenants Over Rent
Police in Nairobi have detained a landlord who assaulted residents in a building in Imara Daima over unpaid rent in January. This occurred after, on January 5, just as several of the tenants were leaving for work, an attack on their families prompted them to sound the alarm.
The tenant’s wife was allegedly beaten by the landlord, who also took away his door and engaged in a duel with other tenants.”I was called by my house as I had left for work, I had to rush back just to find him cutting my door,” said a another tenant.
The drama did not stop just there, most of the tenants were served with a second notice following the incident, as he allegedly knocked on doors and asked the occupants to vacate for the safety of their children. Before this, he had sent a notice over the festive season, threatening to remove the doors of those who would make late payments.
Additionally, his workers have come forward to clarify that their landlord boss has often harassed them.”He always has issues with a lot of things but the last two weeks, things have been worse even for his tenants,” said another worker.Since then, the landlord has become well-known online when a video of him verbally abusing the renters went viral on social media.A crowd of people gathered at the scene, watching the incident from a distance and daring not to get involved, as seen in the internet recordings.
The boss persisted in thudding the clients despite attempts to break up the altercation by calling out the landlord.Since then, the landlord has been under fire from angry internet users who blame him for not having empathy or understanding. The video went viral.
