Police Officer Arrested Over Links to Terror Group
Authorities from the Malindi Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) detained a police officer on suspicion of having ties to the terrorist organization al Shabaab.Kenyans.co.ke was able to get an OB report on Saturday, which stated that the officer was being held by ATPU investigators who were looking into claims that he had recruited young people for al Shabaab.
After conducting a thorough investigation, the police have concluded that the officer was both a member of the terror group and a recruiter. The constable was accused of singling out young people from Tana River County, as there were reports indicating that many of the children had been reported missing by their families.
The police officer was brought before the Shanzu Law Courts and accused of possessing illegal substances.”He was arrested by ATPU officers from Malindi on November 22 and has been held at Malindi Police Station under investigation for the last 28 days.”
“He received official charges on December 21. The cop was charged with four counts, including inciting violence, when he appeared before the Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court, Shanzu in Mombasa, according to a portion of the OB report.The cop is being held at Shimo La Tewa Prison after entering a not guilty plea to the accusations.
The officer applied for a bond, and the court ordered that the application be decided on December 27, following the Christmas celebrations.Detectives are anticipated to carry out more examination of the two cell phones that were taken from the cop in the interim.
It is believed that the officer may have been in communication with other terror leaders through mobile phones.
